A CONTEMPORARY PORTABLE TORAH ARK IN AN INTERFAITH WORSHIP SPACE
INTERFAITH PLACES OF WORSHIP
A small Jewish congregation is a tenant in a Boston Cathedral, these are some of concrete ventures in the interfaith understanding which now many religious groups espouse. At Emmanuel Episcopal, an historic church in the heart of Boston, Central Reform Temple gathers to conduct its services. Studio Gruss has been commissioned to create a Torah Ark to become the focal ritual furniture of the congregation; the mandate was to create a modern Aron Kodesh to harmonize with the gothic revival architecture of the space. The abstract artwork on the doors depicts the Heavens, opened arched windows allow for light to shine through the Ark illuminating the Hebrew words “Brit Olam”
